HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, NY – October 16, 2014 — The Village of Hastings-on-Hudson is pleased to announce its appointment of Barbara Prisament to the position of Hastings Downtown Advocate. She will start Monday, October 20th. Ms. Prisament will report directly to Hastings Village Manager Fran Frobel and work with the Hastings Board of Trustees to review strategies, policies, and programs that affect the downtown community. The goal of this newly created, part-time, position is to create a more vibrant, beautiful and economically successful downtown. Towards that end, Ms. Prisament will collaborate with Hastings government departments, boards, commissions, and committees as well as residents, business and property owners to ensure that the downtown serves the needs of residents and visitors as both a commercial marketplace and a community gathering place.
Ms. Prisament was selected by a committee comprised of Village Manager Fran Frobel, Deputy Manager/Village Clerk Susan Maggiotto, Mayor Peter Swiderski and the Hastings Board of Trustees after an extensive process that included reviewing thirty-nine applications and interviewing 5 candidates. A nineteen-year resident of our community, Ms. Prisament is actively engaged with the Village, most notably as the co-organizer of 12milesnorth’s annual “Take Me To The River” Music & Arts Festival. A graduate of Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing, and Sarah Lawrence College with a masters in The Art of Teaching, Ms. Prisament spent 15 years as a sales and marketing executive in the entertainment industry for Elektra Entertainment, Chrysalis and Capitol Records, and most recently worked in a consultant position in social media marketing for the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts. She is also currently working with RiverArts to co-produce a new Music Studio Tour for the quad-villages this coming spring. As a Director for Capitol Records Ms. Prisament was responsible for partnering with a variety of retail accounts throughout the northeast to develop effective sales and marketing campaigns, including compelling and engaging events for the public. As such, she brings a wealth of experience and creative ideas to this position.
Ms. Prisament adds: “Hastings has a rich heritage and a wealth of resources – natural and otherwise – to celebrate as well as draw and build upon. I’m looking forward to partnering with the Village government, our wonderful current – and future – local businesses and the people that live and work here to create an even more welcoming, engaging community and a vibrant downtown.”
The Mayor stated “Ms. Prisament’s approach to the Board during the selection process displayed a combination of enthusiasm, professionalism, and a rich array of creative ideas that were thoughtfully designed based on her deep understanding of our community. We were impressed with her vision and believe she will address the role with great verve.”
One of her first tasks will be to begin reaching out to the community for input and ideas.
