YONKERS, NY – January 13, 2015 – Mayor Mike Spano together with the Yonkers City Council, the Yonkers Industrial Development Agency and Alfred Weissman Real Estate, LLC. broke ground today on a 150-room Hilton Hampton Inn at 555 Tuckahoe Road in Yonkers.
“The hotel business in Yonkers is growing rapidly, a strong indication that the City is establishing itself as a leading destination for business and travel,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “Business developers are confident in the future of Yonkers and they’re saying so by investing in us.”
The Yonkers Industrial Development Agency (YIDA) approved assistance to facilitate the project in May 2014, adding it to the City’s growing roster of nationally-branded hotel chains. Opening for the hotel is planned for late summer.
“We’re excited to be part of the economic renaissance under the leadership of Mayor Spano. We also want to thank Councilman John Larkin and the local community for working together to create a project that will be a great asset to the City of Yonkers,” said Al Weissman, of Alfred Weissman Real Estate, LLC.
When finished, the 188,000 square foot hotel will offer a state-of-the-art hospitality experience including a pool, fitness center and comfortable lobby environment. The hotel will provide an estimated 50 permanent positions, as well as nearly 200 temporary construction jobs.
Council President Liam McLaughlin said, “Yonkers is leading the way in Westchester County with smart economic development and is fast becoming a premier destination to live, work and stay in the New York City metropolitan area. This job creating project will ensure that when guests at the Hampton Inn check-in, they will check out all Yonkers has to offer.”
Council Majority Leader John Larkin stated, “555 Tuckahoe Road has had a long history of development proposals that could never garner the necessary support of the surrounding community. As a former community person and now as the Councilman for the 6th district, I placed the emphasis on trying to achieve that balance between development and community concerns. I believe this proposal of a Hampton Inn has achieved both these goals. I would like to acknowledge and thank the Weissmans, both Alfred and Alan, for their dedication, commitment, and hard work, in addressing the concerns raised by the community. The Weissmans have a long history and stellar reputation within Yonkers and I am pleased that they will maintain an active role in the new Hampton Inn here on Tuckahoe Road.”
Alfred Weissman Real Estate has decades of experience developing commercial properties including several in Yonkers such as the Herald Statesmen Building, 20 South Broadway and now 555 Tuckahoe Road.
