Yonkers, NY, September 1, 2010 — The Yonkers Police Department will be sponsoring a Citizens Police Academy beginning October 27, 2010 and concluding January 19, 2011. The 12 week program will meet on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 9:30 PM.
Citizens Police Academies are effective in improving police – community relations and provide participants valuable insight into the comprehensive training that police officers receive.
This training will be conducted by certified instructors from the Yonkers Police Department Training Unit. This hands-on training will include handcuffing techniques, defensive tactics, firearms simulator training and other law enforcement related topics.
Attendees will also attend a “Ride-A-Long” with Yonkers patrol officers. The Citizens Police Academy will provide the participants a better understanding of the complexities of police service as well as the difficulties that police officers encounter during the performance of their duties.

For a minute there I thought this meant getting rid of the boring Police Community Counsels and their antiquated presidents, too bad.
