Yonkers Firefighter Dan Colon Saves the Life of Elderly Restaurant Patron By HEZI ARIS
YONKERS, NY -- March 15, 2013 -- It is Friday night, March 15, 2013. Off-duty Yonkers Firefighter Dan Colon is enjoying the company of his wife over a repast at the Outbank Steakhouse on Central Avenue when he recognizes an elderly woman near where they where seated in distress. The woman was choking. Without a second of hesitation, Firefighter Colon, a Certified First Responder, sprang into action. After ascertaining 911 had been called, he began performing abdominal thrusts on the choking patient. After several abdominal thrusts, the obstruction causing her to choke was dislodged, expelled, and she began to again breather normally. A proud and successful moment indeed! Shortly thereafter, Yonkers Fire Department Squad 11 arrived at the scene, attended to the woman and awaited Empress EMS ambulance to arrive before returning to the firehouse.
FF Colon saves a life. Last year FF Rodrigues saved a life. Seems like the 1st Responder program/training is certainly paying off. Wouldn't you say Mayor Spano? Can't wait for the press conference that the Mayor will call to laud this brave FF's actions. I'm sure News 12 is already setting up their cameras...

I think with the training our FF get does not start and ene when they walk into an firehouse it stays with them 24 hours a day and this proves this. he could have sat there with his wife and done nothing this proves how good our FF are. Good job Mr Colon and I hope you stay with us for a long time

Another example of just how good our Yonkers Fire Fighters do their job day in and day out and sometimes when they're not even working. Good job Mr. Colon

Good job Fireman Colon. Thank you for helping someone in need. I'm sure that the woman you helped was very grateful for your assistance. I've seen the Yonkers firemen doing their jobs excellently for almost 30 years and it makes me sick to see what Mayor Spano has tried to do to the firemen. But your actions speak much louder than any politician's words. Thank you.

Great job by the Yonkers Firemen as always. When's the last time someone told Mike Spano he was doing a great job? When's the last time he did his job?
No bother - Mike Spano will be gone before we all know it. His departure can't come soon enough.

Not all FF's paid that $100.00.

City Hall has been very quiet lately when it comes to the firefighters. In fact, City Hall TV didn't even show the swearing in ceremony of the newly hired firefighters. Could it be because Spano only got a half hearted round of applause out of respect for his office and not for himself? And when the union president McGoey was introduced he got a thunderous round of applause and approval from the new recruits, their families, and the firefighters and friends in attendance? Makes you wonder? Was Spano embarassed? Just wait and see what's coming down the road.

I hear the FF's union created a new PAC specifically to DEFEAT and DESTROY Spano and that their goal is to have $1,000,000 in that PAC withing the next 2 years.

Maybe the idiot FF union leader can ask Spano to return the $100 check that each firefighter gave to Mikey's campaign fund, at his demand.
Assholes, politically speaking, of course.

It's too bad Sue Gerrry wasnt choking on a piece of meat instead of this old lady. I bet the firefighter would have still helped her. Do they have an Outback up where the Deputy Mayor lives in Pound Ridge? Mike Spano should be ashamed of himself for bringing this cuntbag to Yonkers. He will regret it because she will be the reason why he doesn't get reelcted and his political career will be over.

People....Will...Die!!!
If we don't have a foiafighta in every Outback!

Just think folks, if our idiot mayor gets his way, we citizens will no longer have trained EMTs in our fire department to handle these types of emergencies. It will be left to a low-bid, no bid contractor who had the medical runs taken away from it 20 years ago because they could not do the job adequately.
Our citizens will die without the EMTs of the fire department. This is not about Mayor Moron trying to save money. If Mayor Moron wanted to save money, he would order the Board of Education to cut their budget 5% ($25 million) and he would stop hiring his friends and family to these six-figure no-show jobs.
Hey everyone, be sure to attend Mayor Moron's state of the city speech on Wednesday at the Riverfront Library at 7:00pm. Bring your popcorn.

Good job FF Colon you did everything just like you were trained to do.
One of the most important steps was to make sure that 911 was called so that additional First Responders from the Yonkers FIRE Department would be there within just a few minutes and followed by an Empress EMS Ambulance a few minutes later. This ensured that you would have several Firefighters there to assist you just in case the woman went into cardiac arrest or if you weren't able to dislodge the obstruction with abdominal thrusts.
Thank God you were trained in what to do and that you stayed calm and acted when you did. I'm sure this woman and her family are very happy the Firefighters and their union prevented the Mayor from doing away with the First Responder program in the Yonkers Fire Department.
Good job to Firefigher Colon on this day and good job by all of the Yonkers Firefighers EVERY day.

Aris if spano gets rid of medicals like he wants , than the fd will no longer be required to do medical training and this FF would not have the tools necessary to carry out this save.....If it was not for all of his Medical training this Yonkers Resident might have died...How does Spano equate that loss into his budget plans...
lets see ..i will save no money and 5 yonkers residents will probably die this year alone ..
but atleast i will get to Fuck over the FD...what do you think Sue....Lets Do it...

YES aris the arse.

Aris, it seems to me that either you are looking for an argument, or you are a Spano plant.
I do not see “your take” on the first post.
I interpreted the first post as saying: “Hey, great job Dan!!! It makes me sick that your mayor is trying to fuck you good bunch of guys, but you still care about your community and still try to do the right thing no matter what that idiot Mayor tries to do to you.”
That’s how I read it.
Now, for the important post.
GREAT JPB DAN!

Being that he was of duty, would he have tried to help if he was laid off? It seems that the first poster is saying hat the YFD wouldn't or couldn't help if they were not active. Pathetic.

Great job Dan you are a credit to the job, it just makes you wonder why that scum of a mayor keeps thinking of cutting firefighters.
