The Untermyer Performing Arts Council Present The Polka Brothers - Saturday, August 31st @ 7:30 pm

UPAC-083113-The Polka BrothersThe Polka Brothers are a one of a kind musical experience that will not only drive Saturday's event, but keep others talking about it for years to come. At first glance they're a well-oiled polka machine, boasting a fearless repertoire that includes polka favorites, pop and rock gone polka, and unforgettable originals. It's all incredibly fun.

The charm of "The Polka Brothers" works in a few ways. At first listen, the music will transport you to familiar polka homelands. Simply the tone of the band brings you to Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and others... You've stepped out of your day and taken that trip you've always dreamed of.

MIDDLE EAST FORUM: The Pros and Cons of Attacking Syria - A Symposium By DAVID P. GOLDMAN

GOLDMAN_DAVID PGo after the dog's master, not the dog.

Kudos to Michael Ledeen for explaining that the road to Damascus starts in Tehran. As Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu explained on Aug. 25, "Assad's regime isn't acting alone. Iran, and Iran's proxy, Hezbollah, are there on the ground playing an active role assisting Syria. In fact, Assad's regime has become a full Iranian client and Syria has become Iran's testing ground. … Iran is watching and it wants to see what will be the reaction to the use of chemical weapons."

“Afro Blue Impressions” was first released on vinyl in 1977, (although www.AllMusic.com states it was released in ’73,) and the CD version came along in ’93. Now this 2013 fiftieth anniversary version is reissued, re-mastered, reinvigorated and recreated with superb sound from ace engineer Joe Tarantino and adds three bonus tracks.  The three bonus tracks have all been previously issued, but never packaged together on any previous edition of “Afro Blue Impressions.”  Benny Green’s original liner notes are included as well as a 2013 set of insightful liners from Neil Tesser. In total there’s twelve songs recorded in Berlin and Stockholm during the fall of 1963 from two just two concert performances.  The recordings were acquired by the late Norman Granz (famous for Verve records, Pablo, Jazz at the Philharmonic tours and more.) Each song has the same lineup of pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison, and drummer Elvin Jones.
