MAYOR MARVIN’S COLUMN: The Critical Voice of Those in the Trenches By MARY C. MARVIN

MARVIN_Mayor Mary C - Black outfit-white pealrsI have been asked to join a panel of New York State Mayors to set the State Legislative priorities for the upcoming Legislative session for our parent organization, the New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials (NYCOM).

Though at times, I have felt it an exercise in futility of late due to inaction on the part of the Legislature, the voice of those in the trenches is critical to the conversation.

Bramson-Schumer endorsement 27Oct13

(L-R) Westchester County Chair Ken Jenkins, County Executive candidate Noam Bramson, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer, 4th District Councilman candidate Euthimios "Tim" Keothokatos, and Yonkers City Democratic Chair Symra Brandon.

YONKERS, NY -- October 27, 2013 – Senator Chuck Schumer came to Yonkers today strongly endorsing Noam Bramson for Westchester County Executive. Senator Chuck Schumer attempted to draw a comparison of incumbent County Executive Rob Astorino to obstructionist Tea Party Republicans in Washington, D.C. It seems Senator Schumer may not have realized the campaign effort for Westchester County Executive is about Westchester County, not about Washington, D.C.

IN MEMORIAM: James Sadewhite By Hezi Aris

Sadewhite_Maestro James - conductingToday I learned of the passing of one of the most empathic men I have ever met. A great man. A cultured man. He was kind hearted, always found a good word for others who may not have always deserved being addressed with such kindness, but the bar of generosity of his heart, mind and soul eclipsed most I have met. He was a learned man with insight few would ever come to know. He touched all who would come to meet him. He generously shared his broad educational scope and reference points with everyone. He was a teacher in its most stellar definition. Anecdotes and musical reference would and did eclipse the political decay all about him. He persevered despite the naysayers. His vision was full and attainable and grand; perhaps too big for Yonkers, but he would not hear of it.
