YONKERS, NY – October 19, 2014 — At approximately 3:11 a.m. today, numerous units responded to the area of Rumsey Road and Valley Road on a report of a motor vehicle accident involving one vehicle. A 2001 Lincoln Town Car had apparently sustained extensive damage after hitting a tree on the center median of Rumsey Road. Two individuals were inside the vehicle. A passenger, identified as a 28-year-old female Yonkers resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver, a 34-year-old male Yonkers resident sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local trauma center for treatment. He is currently listed in serious, but stable condition. Next of kin are still being notified and names cannot be released at this time.
Accident investigators were called to the scene for processing. Initial investigation to date has revealed that the vehicle was travelling northbound on Rumsey Road when it veered off the roadway and struck the tree. It is unknown what role, if any, drugs or alcohol played in this accident. The driver of the vehicle had active warrants and he is currently in police custody.
