Student to Read Winning Essay at MLK Celebration Monday, January 20th
YONKERS, NY – January 17, 2014 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano (left) today announced the winners of the city’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Essay Contest to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and honor the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s historic I Have A Dream speech. Fifth grader Jessica Costello of Montessori 31, eighth grader Lavonne Spencer of the Yonkers Montessori Academy, Junior Ayesha Asghar of Yonkers Middle High School were selected by Mayor Spano as the contest’s winners.

YONKERS, NY – March 28, 2013 – Mayor Mike Spano today announced the City of Yonkers is expanding its presence on social media by launching new pages on sites including Tumblr, Instagram and Flickr. The City also launched a new problem solver application on its Facebook page for residents to express concerns or issues.

YONKERS, NY – March 1, 2013 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano took action this week urging Congress to avert $85 billion in across-the-board government spending cuts in an anticipated federal budget sequestration. Mayor Spano sent a letter this week to U.S. Congressman Eliot Engel encouraging him and his colleagues to take action in preventing the cuts.

YONKERS, NY – February 6, 2013 -- Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced a major victory in the effort to reform costly Fire Department labor practices, saying that the New York State Public Employee Relations Board (P.E.R.B.) yesterday issued a ruling siding with the City’s attempt to declare an impasse and begin the process of mediation and, ultimately, potential binding arbitration.
